Holiday Cheer from 4-Estle

This Holiday Season We Will…

Seek a bit of kindness to spread.
Seek a present or two under the tree.
Help by shopping for Christmas Gifts.
Help our community by donating to the toy drive.
Share our love with everyone in the room.
Appreciate the toys we get on Christmas.
Appreciate family and friends for being there for us.
Appreciate all we have.
Give a hug to family and friends.
Give happiness.
Give a second chance for everyone.
Welcome friends to our homes.
Write a letter to Santa.
Take pleasure in baking sugar cookies and brownies.
Take pleasure in enjoying the holidays.
Take pleasure in my warm home.
Forgive the Grinch for stealing Christmas.
Forgive myself.

Does your 4th grader ski, snowboard or cross country ski?

Ski & Ride NH 2018/2019
Does your family ski/snowboard/or cross country ski?   Do you want to learn how to ski/snowboard? Please visit this website:  https://www.skinh.com/passport
Read below for this awesome deal or visit their website.
“Ski New Hampshire alpine and cross country ski area member contributes one free lift ticket or trail pass for your fourth or fifth grader to enjoy New Hampshire's scenic ski trails this winter. That's 32 days (or nights) that your child can get outside and explore this season for just $30 upon grade verification. This program is open to 4th and 5th graders from near and far--not just New Hampshire residents!
The 4th & 5th Grade Snowsports Passport will be delivered to your email inbox as a digital product once you've provided proof of eligibility. But why? For one, you'll get your Passport much faster, but we also want to cut down on our paper waste. In the past, we would print booklets to meet demands, but would always end up with extras that would go in the recycling bin. Now, you have the choice to print only the vouchers you intend to use. We do ask that you print the vouchers that you want to use and bring them to the resorts with you. Your child will still be asked to present the voucher and sign it for verification.
Ski NH donates a percentage of passport sales to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Hampshire. This organization has brought joy to more than 500 children who have a life-threatening medical condition.
Please note: Pricing, pass availability and restrictions are subject to change at any time and without notice.
Vouchers are valid every day except December 26, 2018 – January 1, 2019; January 19-20, 2019; February 16-18, 2019, and February 23, 2019.*  All vouchers expire for each ski area on the last day that they are open during 2018/19 ski season. Vouchers for Pats Peak cannot be used for the Saturday night Pay One Price promotion, and McIntyre Ski Area vouchers cannot be used for One Great Rate promotion. Limit one (1) passport per 4th or 5th-grade student. Any 4th or 5th grader can participate, regardless of where they live.

How to Buy a Passport

  • STEP 1 - Order your passport online by following the prompted steps. Please note, you will receive a purchase confirmation email, but you will need to continue to Step 2 to receive your vouchers.
    • If you are unable to order online, please give us a call at 603-745-9396. Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 9am to 4pm.
  • STEP 2 - Send us verification that your child is in the 4th or 5th grade. We'll email your passport once we receive verification.
    • Acceptable Verification: We accept the following: a current report card, a progress report, a letter from the school stating your child is currently enrolled in the 4th or 5th grade, or a screenshot of your school account login with your child's current grade level. If your child participated in last year's program (as a 4th grader) we can usually verify that he/she is in 5th grade via our records. Any verification submitted to Ski NH must have this year's date on it in order to be considered. Valid screenshots can include the date on your monitor if your online system does not show the date.
    • How to Send Verification: The easiest & fastest way to send verification is via email. Take a photo or scan of your child's proof of grade as outlined above and email it to us at Passports@SkiNH.com. You can also photocopy the proof and mail it to us at PO Box 521, Conway, NH 03818. However, this method does take longer for us to process.

Once you have submitted your proof of eligibility, we will work as quickly as possible to complete approvals (this may take a few weeks). Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 9am to 4pm. Passports purchased outside of these hours may not be processed until the office reopens. Please note, there are no refunds on passports, including unused portions of the passport. ricing, pass availability and restrictions are subject to change atany time and without notice.

Growth Mindset

This year in class we have talked a lot about the brain as an elastic that can be stretched and changed. As students move forward with their education, and eventually into the work field and life, it is important they have qualities such as resilience, flexible thinking, and persistence. We will be talking these qualities and about growth mindset throughout the year. Your student should be coming home with an information sheet that outlines some things we will be talking about here in school. It also provides you with some tips, tools and things to say to your student as they are learning about this process.

Reading Calendars

This month we have started monthly reading calendars. Each night they would normally receive homework (Monday through Thursday), students are expected to read for 20 minutes. On their calendar they are to record the title of what they read and have a parent initial. This assignment is designed to encourage reading for enjoyment and also responsibility of keeping the calendar. Their calendars will be turned in on Fridays, and those with completed calendars will be included in a raffle to receive a prize.

Please help your student by encouraging them to find something they enjoy reading and signing their calendar each night. The calendar should stay in their homework folder for easy transport back and forth to school. Thank you for your help with this!

2018-2019 Welcome to 4-Estle!

Welcome to 4-Estle!

I hope you have been having a fun summer, and I am looking forward to hearing all about your summer adventures! I have been enjoying my summer, right after school got out my family and I traveled to Hawaii, I have been reading (a lot!) and have spent some time at the beach and lake with my family, and my Chocolate Lab, Emma.

I am so excited to be your fourth grade teacher, you are going to LOVE fourth grade! We will be taking some great field trips,, will be learning about some exciting topics (volcanos, NH history, fractions, weather, and more!), write a lot, and read some GREAT books. You are going to learn a lot this year and also have some fun, I know you are ready!

As you are getting ready and doing your back to school shopping, please find a recommended supply list below. You do not need to have everything for the first day of school. I will supply students with the rest of the folders and materials they will need, also please note that we do not use binders in 4-Estle (I find that they are bulky and don’t fit well in the desks).

Please let your family at home know that they can find my class blog online by using this link (http://mrse4.blogspot.com), I highly recommend following it by entering their email on the right side of the page. Most of our classroom information is shared on the blog. In addition 4-Estle is a connected classroom! Please ask them to follow our fourth grade adventures on Twitter @mrsestle.

I can’t wait to meet you on the first day of school. If you have any questions or need anything before school starts, please feel free to send me a note (hestle@sau16.org). Enjoy the last few weeks of summer vacation, I will see you soon!

                     -Mrs. Estle
